New App Design and User Experience (UX) Degree at IT Sligo

IT Sligo will commence a new Bachelor of Arts honours degree in App Design & User Experience this September 2018.

This innovative four year honours degree programme prepares graduates to design engaging interfaces for apps, websites, wearable and ‘yet to be imagined’ future digital products. User Experience (UX) design is the process of crafting such products to be useful, easy to use and delightful to interact with. This is achieved through design thinking, user research, usability testing and iterative prototyping. The programme equally equips graduates with the tools and expertise to bring ideas to life using industry best prototyping software and rapid coding instruction in order to put designs into the hands of users for real-world testing to develop products for market in an expedient manner.

“According to the Institute of Designers in Ireland, UX design is the fastest growing design sector nationally and so graduates are in high demand both here and abroad,” says Adrian Durcan, Programme Chair. “This degree was devised through careful collaboration with a panel of industry experts in order to assure that educational learning outcomes aligned with current and future industry needs.”

The creative computing programme will be delivered through interactive workshops, industry-led projects and lectures whilst also affording undergraduates an opportunity to engage in work placement, culminating in a design portfolio which will allow graduates to apply for a range of careers. The skillset offered to graduates of the BA App Design and User Experience degree are in high demand and typical graduate starting salaries average between €28K- €38K per annum (source: Sigmar, Brightwater, Morgan-McKinley). Why not look for yourself and enter any of these keywords on a jobs boards of choice: UX Designer, UI Designer, Interaction Designer or Visual Designer.
