The Institute wishes to recruit to the following positions:

Hourly Paid Part-time Assistant Lecturer for BA in Writing & Literature

We are looking for a writer to teach/facilitate writing workshops for 7 hours per week (approximately) for Semester 1 of the 2017/2018 academic year as part of the BA in Writing & Literature at IT Sligo. Applicants should hold at least an Honours Degree (ideally in Literature/Writing-related programme) and three year post qualification experience;  be mid-career writers with published works to their credit who have received recognition for their achievements. Applications are encouraged from writers of diverse genres—including literary fiction, nonfiction, journalism, poetry, screen writing, and play writing. Applicants will have experience with community engagement, such as teaching or mentoring writers, editing journals or collaborating on creative projects.  Rate of pay is €58.32 per hour.

The successful applicant will:

  • Plan and deliver weekly workshops to writing students;
  • Provide constructive feedback on writing in progress guiding student portfolios to high standard of writing;
  • Facilitate learning environment where feedback and critique are shared sensitively, helping students to acquire editing skills;
  • Attend course board meetings, contribute expertise to development of the programme and fulfil relevant administrative duties in relation to marks and standards and other programme needs;
  • Contribute to development of a literary/arts journal produced and edited from the BA in Writing & Literature at IT Sligo;
  • Assist in organising public readings to showcase student writing;
  • Participate in national/international literary festivals and events that provide public relations/marketing opportunities for the BA in Writing and Literature.

 

Hourly Paid Part-time Assistant Lecturer in Swimming and Health Promotion:

The post relates primarily to the teaching of modules in Swimming, Pool Lifeguard and Health promotion on a number of programmes ranging from L6 – L8.
Successful candidates may also be required to supervise under-graduate and/or post-graduate dissertation projects.
There is a requirement to teach up to 19 hours per week for Semester 1 of the 2017/2018 academic year.  Rate of pay is €58.32 per hour.

Essential Qualifications:

Applicants must, as a minimum, hold an Honours Bachelor Degree at 2.2 or equivalent in a cognate discipline such as Health Promotion, Sport, Fitness, or Education.
Level 2 swim teacher qualification (Swim Ireland (SI)/Irish Water safety (IWS).
Personal swim teacher insurance cover.
Pool lifeguard qualification (Royal lifesaving society (RLSS)/ Irish Water Safety).
Applicants must have a minimum of three years post-qualification experience.

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. RLSS Trainer Assessor/ IWS instructor qualification.
  2. IWS/SI tutor qualification.
  3. A relevant level 10 qualification (such as PhD, DBA).
  4. A record of research activity, including publication.
  5. Experience of delivery of relevant swimming modules to third level students.
  6. Experience of delivery of health promotion modules to third level students.
  7. Experience of teaching and curriculum development in a relevant discipline.
  8. Experience of collaboration with industry partners.
  9. Experience of project supervision.
  10. Experience of online delivery of programmes.
  11. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

Hourly Paid Part-time Assistant Lecturer in Psychology:

The post relates primarily to the teaching of Psychology. It will require the successful applicant to be available for day-time teaching during Semester 1 of the 2017/2018 academic year.

  • Applicants must, as a minimum, hold an Honour’s Degree at 2.2 or better in Psychology, and at least three years’ relevant post-qualification experience

Desirable qualifications and skills include:

  • Qualified at Masters/Ph.D. level 
  • Demonstrable extensive professional experience in the sector
  • Demonstrable teaching experience Higher Education
  • Demonstrable record of relevant active research and publications
