Your Induction Schedule 2021

This timetable is a guide to be used for Induction week. All of these great resources are available to you throughout your time as a student at IT Sligo. If you wish to access resources at different days then what has been indicated on this schedule please feel free to do so.

9am – 10am:  Welcome.

Watch the Welcome message from the President of IT Sligo Dr. Brendan McCormack.

10am – 11am: Library Services.

Find out more about our Library services for online learners with Sinead Kelly.

11am – 12pm: Moodle Induction.

Log into Moodle and look at your dashboard! Check out what support courses we have available to you in the My supports tab! Find your way around Moodle. 

12pm – 1pm: Lunchtime Live Chat.

Join our live Q&A and ask any questions you have in regards to getting started as an online learner here. 

2pm – 3pm: Task Completion.

Complete the tasks in the Online Supports page in Moodle.

9am – 11am:  Academic Success.

Study our support course ‘Academic Success’ Module 1. What is higher education for? 2 hours.

This module aims to help you to:

  • Feel inspired and excited about what lies ahead at IT Sligo
  • Reflect on your expectations for college life 
  • Organise your own personal priorities and goals for you time at IT Sligo. Adapt to the academic expectations at IT Sligo. Focus on what independent learning means and involves
  • Learn how to take greater ownership of your work and take responsibility for your learning
  • Consider different forms of learning at IT Sligo and how to take part in them most effectively.

 

11am – 12pm: Am I ready for study?

This is a self service tool used to help you to assess your own readiness for third level study, providing you with meaningful and positive feedback. 10 – 15 mins.

 

1pm – 2pm: Lunchtime Live Chat.

7pm – 8pm: Science Department

10am – 11.30pm: Academic Success.

Study our support course ‘Academic Success’ Module 2. Introduction to student skills? 1 hour 30 mins.

This module aims to help you to:

  • Consider forms of learning that you may encounter at IT Sligo
  • Navigate the different ways that you will be expected to communicate and work online and how to behave appropriately.
  • Develop plans for completing assignments.
  • Identify how to find the information you need quickly and efficiently
  • Identify helpful ways to tackle and improve your academic writing skills.
  • Tackle presentation anxiety and deliver presentations with more confidence.

 

11.30am – 11.45am:Do I have enough time?

This is a self service tool used to help you to calculate the amount of time you spend on different activities during a typical week and offers advice on how much study you could realistically undertake in your free time.

10am – 11.30pm: Academic Success.

Study our support course ‘Academic Success’ Module 3. Academic Integrity. 1 hour 30 mins.

This module aims to help you to:

  • Articulate the meaning of academic integrity
  • Recognise the value of academic integrity both within higher education and the wider world
  • Understand how to demonstrate and uphold academic integrity in your work
  • Identify plagiarism 
  • Understand the purpose of referencing and acknowledging others’ work

 

11.30am – 11.45am: Who can I ask?

Use this tool to to help you to think about who you might ask for support in order to help you successfully complete your studies.

 

1pm – 2pm: Covid-19.

Complete the ‘Covid-19’ mandatory course.

 

7pm – 8pm: Business & Social Science Department.

Anytime:  My Computer Skills.

You can use this tool to give you a sense of the computer skills you will need for studying in Higher Education. 10 – 15 mins.

Anytime:  My Computer Skills.

This tool helps when you get that first assignment letting you know what they are and what to expect from them. It also is designed to give you some guidance when you are doing assignments. 10 – 15 mins.

Anytime: Use our interactive toolkit ‘living well, being well’.

Use this interactive toolkit which will help you to take a positive, preventative approach to maintain your mental, physical, emotional, and financial wellbeing. develop the confidence to manage wellbeing issues challenges in your academic and personal lives.
