Science On The Radio Gets Award Nomination

A new radio series, which aims to make science more accessible, has been shortlisted for a prestigious eGovernment award.

‘The Appliance of Science’, presented by IT Sligo lecturer Dr Sarah Hehir (pictured), is a 15-part radio series which is broadcast on Ocean FM every Sunday morning at 9.30am.

Dr Hehir is lecturer in Life Sciences in the Institute’s School of Science.

“The programme aims to teach basic principles of science in an accessible way, relating theory and experimentation to concrete examples familiar to any listener,” says Sarah.

Programme topics to date have included: Honey, Flying, Stroke, Invasive Species and Flotation.

The radio series has been nominated in both the Accessibility and Open Source award categories. The Ireland eGovernment Awards recognise the innovators and forward thinkers who are pioneering changes and helping deliver better online services for Irish citizens today.

The eGovernment Awards Ceremony 2016 will take place at the end of January 2016.
