Knocknarea & Athletics Arena

Much of the Institute’s sporting and recreation activities are centered on the Knocknarea Arena. See below for details on Facilities, Membership Pricing and Opening Schedules.

Multi-purpose Hall
The multi-purpose hall (32.4m x 28m) operates as two independent courts. These are each the size of a basketball court or three full sized badminton courts. Each court is available for hire for a range of activities. Also with the removal of the division the full hall is available for larger competitions and other events.

Fitness CentreKnockArena Arena
This state of the art facility encorporates 32 pieces of cardiovascular and resistance equipment plus free weights. With new cardio equipment recently added along with a watt bike the Knocknarea is one of the best facilities around. As a member of the Fitness Centre you will receive free fitness consultations and personalised exercise programmes with a member of our qualified fitness team. This is a very pleasant environment, with plenty of natural light and excellent views of the athletic arena and playing pitches.

The multi-purpose recreation space offers a wide range of group activity opportunities, ranging from Aikido, Aerobics, Karate to Pilates, Yoga and Tai’chi. It is a relaxing environment and can also be used as a stretch and chill-out area after a strenuous gym session. The Multi-Purpose studio also hosts classes such as spinning, circuits, yoga and Pilates.

Social Area
The social area has a viewing balcony, with good food and beverages on offer. It is bright, lively, a great place to meet friends and watch ‘the match’ either live from the balcony of on TV or just shoot some pool.

Athletics Arena
The athletics arena is an 8 lane tartan surface championship facility. It is used extensively by the local community and college groups. It is available for individual use by college student, staff and external community. Fitness centre members are not charged for the use of the athletics arena.

Before visiting or enrolling please read the Rules & Regulations document below.
