In a nutshell

A unique Springboard programme delivered online and available as either a 1 year (full-time) or 2 year (part-time) mode.

For those with an existing non-computing related Level 8 qualification, this programme offers an accelerated route to refocus your career around computing, specialising in software development and networking.

This programme is hosted online with minimal attendance at IT Sligo. Spanning two semesters, you'll finish the course of study with either work placement or a project. Either serves to pull together the knowledge gathered and ready you for the jobs market.

The programme represents a significant commitment of time and energy but the rewards await those fundamentally interested in a genuine career change. The market for IT graduates is very strong and new fields emerge continually. Ireland stands as a global centerpiece for the ICT industry and this programme capitalises on this unique positioning.

What's involved?

Entry Requirements

This online learning programme is offered both as a part-time and full-time delivery mode. Through a combination of online delivery technologies comprising the web- casting of live lectures over the internet as well as access to high quality recordings, IT Sligo is to the forefront of emerging breakthroughs in the delivery and assessment of online students.

All applications must be made through the Springboard website

What you'll start with

You'll study a comprehensive and fast-paced introduction to programming. We use C# and .Net programming, an in demand Microsoft development stack. Web programming forms part of this and you'll also be introduced to database work to support the development of full-stack applications. Part-time students will take a half-set of the 6 modules.

What you'll learn next

You build on the coding skills introduced earlier and look at how networking brings global systems together. Networking modules round out your understanding of the underlying architecture of the IT industry. With Ireland fast becoming a global hub for cloud computing, there is a ready demand for graduates with knowledge of both hardware and software.

Work Placement or Project

Full-time students are expected to participate in a full semester of work placement. For part-time students or those for whom work placement cannot be found or suits their particular circumstances, a prescribed Project is offered to be completed over the summer.

Job Opportunities

A recent report on the Springboard programmes of free courses for jobseekers shows 60% were working or self-employed within two years of completion.
