In a nutshell

This is a one-year add-on course. The Level 8 programme provides students with a dedicated space and stimulating environment to enhance their fine art skills and develop a coherent body of work. Critical engagement is structured through regular tutorials and group critiques.

An emphasis on individual research enables students to become independent learners and practitioners. By this close collaboration, you will be exposed to unique and innovative activities to complement your study.

You may apply directly to the college for this programme.

What's involved?

A solid foundation in fine art

Fourth year provides a concentrated time and space to focus on your developing artistic practice. Studio work is primarily self-directed, with regular one to one tutorials and group critiques supporting this. A ‘Professional Practice’ module helps you to understand and situate your practice within a contemporary art setting.

The year culminates in an assessment by public exhibition of each student’s work. Through your studies in Art History/Theory you will write an extended essay on a research topic of your choosing and also a shorter ‘Critical Writing’ project based on an examination of your own art practice.

Moving on

This programme aims to produce a flexible, creative and resourceful graduate who has evolved their own specialisation within the area of Fine Art practice and who has developed the conceptual, critical and practical skills necessary to become a professional practicing artist, an active participant in the cultural sector or a student at post-graduate level.
