BSc in Occupational Safety and Health (add-on)

Many graduates of Science, Engineering, Business and other disciplines find themselves in workplace roles with responsibility for Occupational Safety and Health but don’t have the relevant training or competency based qualifications. This course is designed as a follow-on to the Higher Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health or to up skill professionals with other disciplines to become competent OSH practitioners.

Programme/Course Structure

This course is offered part-time over two years throughonline lectures and resource materials which are available 24/7 to the learner. There will be one workshop per semester where the students will undertake teamwork, case studies, lectures and/or site visits. Assessments will be a blend of online and final examinations and students will be instructed in these online methods at the start of the course. Typically lectures occur on line one evening per week for approximately one hour . There are opportunities to ask questions and interact similar to a real classroom experience or alternatively the live recordings can be accessed for repeat viewing at any time. Participants require a broadband service to access the material and participate on the course.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements for CAO 2017 courses at ITSligo are available for download below:

Higher Certificate (Level 6) in a relevant discipline or equivalent. Applicants with other qualifications and/or with relevant experience will also be considered. It is also envisaged however, that applicants with different backgrounds can successfully complete the programme, subject to assessment of other recognised qualifications, and/or recognised prior learning and/or relevant work experience. These candidates may be interviewed for suitability and be subject to prior approval by the Programme Board.

Employment prospects exist in both the public and private sectors in organisations of all types and sizes. Graduates from the BSc. Occupational Safety and Health (Level 7) will be qualified at an Occupational Safety & Health Advisor/Officer level.

Graduates from this course can apply to progress to the full time BSc (Hons) Add-on in Occupational Safety and Health or the part-time online Level 8 Honours Degree in Occupational Safety & Health Management at IT Sligo.
