Certificate in Polymer Processing (Online)
This one year long part-time programme offers a level 7 Certificate in Polymer Processing and is delivered primarily online. It is aimed at suitable jobseekers who are holders of Level 6 engineering qualifications and relevant industrial experience or those who already have a Level 7 engineering degree and want to gain the necessary knowledge, skills and competence to work in polymer processing in an industry that covers areas of automotive, construction, medical devices, electrical/electronic and plastic packaging.
The successful completion of this programme will allow entrants to help secure employment in a polymer processing engineering role.
The programme is divided into two semesters and you are required to complete two modules within each semester along with a series of practical training days in FirstPolymer in Athlone. There is also a level 6 10 credit module in personal effectiveness and employability to help perspective candidates improve their presentation and communication skills and improve their skills in finding employment.

This programme will give the learner a thorough introduction to plastics materials (polymerisation, structures, properties, use of additives) their applications in everyday commercial and more increasingly in medical applications.
The polymer specific skills gained are transferable across a broad plastics manufacturing sector which includes, Agriculture/Horticulture, Automotive/Transport, Construction/Civil engineering/Industrial , Electrical/Electronic, Medical Equipment/Devices, Packaging & Renewables.
