The purpose of this policy is to ensure that when required Out of Hours work activities can be conducted in a safe, controlled and co-ordinated manner, with appropriate contingency made for emergencies. IT Sligo strongly recommends that in the interest of health, safety and personal security, Out of Hours work should only be undertaken by employees when absolutely necessary and when no other alternatives are available.
Out of Hours Access is defined as and includes all of the below;
1. Any work activities undertaken in any campus facility outside of
- 8.30 am to 10.00 pm Monday to Thursday
- 8.30 am to 6.00 pm on a Friday
- 9.00 am to 6.00 pm on a Saturday
- Any time on a Sunday, a Bank Holiday or when the campus facilities are closed for Christmas or Easter Holidays
2. Any work activities which involve the use of live machinery/equipment or chemicals, conducted in a workshop, a laboratory or a project room outside of (unless specifically timetabled as part of full or part time programme or planned as part of an approved event).
- 8.30 am to 7.00 pm Monday to Thursday
- 8.30 am to 6.00 pm on a Friday
- Anytime on a Saturday, Sunday, a Bank Holiday or when the campus facilities are closed for Christmas or Easter Holidays
3. Access to the Knocknarea Arena is managed independently by the Manager of the facility and is governed by specific procedures for that facility.
The Key Points of this policy are
- It is applicable to all users (employees, undergraduate students, postgraduate students, campus companies and contractors) of campus facilities.
- Undergraduate students will not be permitted unsupervised Out of Hours access to campus buildings.
- Supervised Out Of Hours access maybe granted to undergraduate students in exceptional circumstances (please refer to the Out of Hours Policy below for details).
- Employees and postgraduate students who wish to have Out of Hours Access to conduct work activities which involves the use of hazardous machinery/equipment or chemicals must get approval from their Departmental Manger.
- Employees and postgraduates who are on campus Out of Hours must follow the conditions laid out in the Hours Access Policy which
- Includes notifying IT Security when they arrive and when they leave
- Signing the fire register at reception when entering and exiting a building Out of Hours.
