Moving IT Sligo towards a world class green campus – analysis of potential value and how it could be achieved.

1. Profile of student to be appointed

The student must have studied environmental science to honours degree level with a minimum final grade of at least H2.1. The student must have also successfully completed subjects in environmental management systems and environmental legislation as part of year 3 or 4 of the degree programme.     In addition, the student should ideally have also studied resource management and waste management and have completed an undergraduate project or work placement in an area closely related to environmental management.

The student must be able to demonstrate an ability to work successfully with others, and have excellent communications skills.

 2. Description of the project

The overall aim of the project is to review the environmental aspects of IT Sligo and benchmark the college with best international practice, particularly in relation to the adoption of a “green campus”.  It is expected that the study outcomes will include a set of practical recommendations in relation to how IT Sligo should address its environmental aspects over the medium term.  An essential element of the study will be to address the practicalities of IT Sligo becoming a “green campus” using a number of appropriate criteria, including environmental, educational, financial and sustainability criteria.
