Tell us a little bit about yourself and what led you to choose your course

I am a 23-year-old final year student at ATU Sligo. I have always had a drive for engineering, from a young age I was always intrigued by the way things work both on the electrical and mechanical side of things. This led me to choose mechatronic engineering as it gives the best of both worlds.

Why did you choose ATU Sligo?

I talked to past students and heard good reports about ATU Sligo. I learned that it was a great place to study engineering and the social aspect of the college was really good. ATU Sligo also compete in the Sigerson competition, being a keen Gaelic footballer this aided my decision. I am from Co. Fermanagh, so I have only a short journey when I have to go home for training.

What advice would you give someone thinking about choosing ATU Sligo?

Great college, loads of opportunities to thrive in whatever your field and very good sporting opportunities to represent the college.

Do you like Sligo as a student town? e.g. things to do, food, nightlife, clubs and societies, accommodation etc.

Yes, Sligo offers lots of things to do, a good variety of clubs, pubs and restaurants. The accommodation is very good with most of the students living in one area, it gives a great opportunity to meet new people.

What specifically about your course do you particularly enjoy?

The practical module brings something from the computer to real life.

What would you say to a student thinking about studying your course?

It’s an exciting course that enables you to bring your engineering ideas to real life.

Tell us about your sporting career/success so far?

5-in-a-row Fermanagh county champions with Derrygonnelly Harps.

Fermanagh Senior Football Panelist.

What is the best thing about sports and sports facilities at ATU Sligo?

Meeting new people, and being able to keep in shape while at college.

How has the sports scholarship benefited you? What are the advantages of it?

The scholarship has helped me afford to drive home for training and get more involved in the college’s competitions.
