Jasmine Lee – BA (Hons) in Interior Architecture and Design

Name: Jasmine Lee

From: Malaysia

School: SMK Batu Unjur (Malaysia)

I chose this degree as I find it challenging and it allows me to express my creativity! I love managing an entire interior design project from A to Z.  From architectural sketches to learning various computer-aided software that allows you to produce your design ideas and precise detail drawings, to selecting and proposing furnishing materials.

I love how we get the opportunity to work with real clients and on community projects, participate in international design competitions, and liaise with design professionals throughout the degree. I like helping people achieve their desired interior spaces while creating a beautiful design portfolio for myself.

Throughout the degree, you will face doubts and uncertainties regarding your ideas. Countless cups of coffee to keep you up to do your assignments on the seemingly endless night! But it will be all worthwhile in the end if you put enough effort into your work. So, fasten your seat belt and enjoy the creative roller coaster journey! Embrace your doubts and trust your guts!

Before coming to Ireland, during my college year in Malaysia, I won several awards, including the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designer (MIID) 2PULUH5 Malaysia in the Institutional Design Category and the Best Design Award in “aMAZE” Graduation Showcase 2016 organized by Saito College. My latest achievement is during my time in ATU Sligo, where I won the IDI Graduate Design Awards 2020 in the Interior Architecture & Interior Design category.

I love studying in Sligo. The people of Sligo are very friendly and helpful to newcomers, especially people like myself from other parts of the world. There is also breath taking scenery, exciting water sports to try like surfing, and beautiful beaches. Sligo’s world-renowned cultural and literary heritage and its magnificent and evocative landscape have constantly inspired and challenged my thoughts during the design process.

My short term plan after ATU Sligo is to work in an interior architecture/ interior design firm as a designer. Setting up my own interior design studio would be one of my long term goals. I know the skills I have got from my time in ATU Sligo will help me achieve all my goals.
