Former Strockbroker, now International travel blogger, Thomas Perko will be in IT Sligo on December 11th to tell students and staff the story of how he has travelled the world on less than $10 a day.

The published travel writer will be in Ireland to share his tips on globe-trotting on a budget, having travelled through more than 50 countries over five years – without almost any money.

He had been a victim of the 2008 financial crisis in his home of Croatia, which left him unemployed even with a Masters of Business and Economics.

“After a career of a stockbroker, broke because of the financial crisis, I hit the road and turned it into my home. I used alternative ways of traveling – hitchhiking, couchsurfing, working, volunteering – and managed to wander around the world with just a little bit of money in my pocket, meeting the most amazing people on the way.”

Eight years later – Thomas has two best-selling books, and one of the most popular TEDx talks of all time (with close to four million views).

Thomas Perko’s talk, entitled: What’s Stopping You?, takes place in IT Sligo’s Aurivo Auditorium on December 11th (11am to 1pm). It is being organised by the Institute’s Department of Marketing, Tourism and Sport.

This event is open to the public.

Admission is free.
