Learn more about the launch of the Atlantic Technological University (ATU) and what this means for international applicants who have applied to full time, on-campus courses beginning in September 2022.

The Atlantic Technological University (ATU) is Ireland’s newest multi-campus technological university in the west and north west of Ireland.  

It came into legal effect on 1st April 2022 following the merger of three institutes of technology: Institute of Technology Sligo, Galway Mayo Institute of Technology and Letterkenny Institute of Technology.

ATU is formed of 8 different campuses.  ATU Sligo is the name of the campus in Sligo. 

ATU Sligo (formlery IT Sligo) is one of the 8 campuses that forms part of Atlantic Technological University. 

It is located in the town of Sligo, in the north west of Ireland. 

Yes. Your offer is still valid. However, you now have an offer for Atlantic Technological University (ATU) instead of IT Sligo. 

This depends on the type of offer you have recieved. 

Unconditional Offer

If you have an unconditional offer from IT Sligo dated on or before 31st March 2022, you do not need an updated offer letter on ATU letterhead.  Your offer remains valid. 

However, some unconditional offer holders may need an updated an offer letter on ATU letterhead for specific purposes. For applicants in this category, the International Office will issue you with an updated offer letter. 

Updated offer letters are expected to be  released in early May 2022. 

Conditional Offer 

If you have recieved a conditional offer from IT Sligo, you will only recieve an updated offer letter from ATU after you have successfully met the conditions of your offer. 

This will be written on your offer letter.

If you have submitted an application, your application will continue to be processed. You do not need to reapply. 

If you are eligible for admission, you will receive an offer letter for ATU. 

All offer letters issued after 1st April 2022 will be on Atlantic Technological University letterhead.

No. The course name, content and duration wil remain the same as written on your IT Sligo offer letter. 

No. The acceptance deadline in your offer letter is correct. You must accept your offer by this date to secure your place. 

All courses offered by ATU Sligo (formely IT Sligo) will be delivered on the ATU Campus in Sligo. 

No. All courses delivered by ATU Sligo (formerly IT Sligo) will be delivered on the ATU Sligo campus in Sligo. 

All courses offered by ATU Sligo (formerly IT Sligo) that were previously on the ILEP will continue to exist on the ILEP.
