DEFERRAL OF EXAMINATIONS

Exam/Assessment Deferral Information due to Covid-19 Restrictions

Where a student cannot complete the proposed alternative assessment in Semester 2, due to Covid-19 restrictions, they can apply for a deferral.  Applications can be made using the online application system below and the deferral fee €100 and registration fee €50 for August 2020 will be waived.

Examples of valid Covid-19 reasons:

  • Covid-19 medical certification
  • Covid-19 self-certification
  • Changes in home care arrangements
  • Inability to engage in remote assessments due to device/broadband availability
  • Inability to assess learning supports remotely
  • Other valid reasons on a case-by-case basis

You will need to upload a note explaining your reasons in lieu of the normal certification.

If you defer you cannot then go ahead and submit an assessment or undertake an exam and visa versa.

If you defer any of your Semester 2 exams/assessments now and are still not in a position to take the exam/assessment in August 2020, you will able to apply to defer again in July 2020.

To assist in planning we would ask that you go ahead as soon as possible and apply for a deferral.

Deferrals must be submitted within four days of the last timetabled exam. Deferrals may be accepted online but will NOT be considered after the forth day.

  • You must submit current substantiating evidence. ( E.g. Medical certs must be current and date stamped by G.P.)
  • You must ensure that you have the module name and titles correct for the module exam you are seeking a deferral for.
  • You must list every individual module you are requesting a deferral for.
  • You will be automatically be registered for sitting the deferred exam at the next available sitting.
  • If you are unable to take the exam for a valid reason at the next available sitting you must apply again though the deferral system.
  • A deferral for a booked holiday will not be entertained as the dates of the exam periods are known to you from the beginning of the academic year.
  • Please note that all deferral requests are not granted so you need to consider the consequences of not being granted a deferral.

Please note that the online Deferral Form will be disabled (password controlled) and no longer accept submissions after the fourth day after the last timetabled exam. In exceptional circumstances you may contact your Head of Dept for deferral consideration.
