ATU Sligo is a proud holder of the Erasmus+ Charter, encouraging students from around the world to come and study with us.

Each year we welcome hundreds of incoming students and staff from our Erasmus + partner institutions.

We also support ATU Sligo students and staff to complete a mobility period at one of our partner colleges.

Studying abroad is a fantastic opportunity to enhance your language skills, make friends and learn in a new and challenging way.   

Incoming Erasmus+ Applications

Applicants should read the instructions carefully before applying. 

The application form for the Autumn 2024 intake is now open and will close on the May 30th 2024. 

 If your college has an existing Inter Institutional Agreement with ATU Sligo then you should discuss your plans with your International Office. If not, you should ask them to contact us on your behalf.

Please review the list of Erasmus Programmes (Autumn 2024) Please note the relevant year and semester. 

These are the only programs available to incoming Erasmus + applicants for Autumn 2024. 

Complete the ATU Sligo Erasmus Application Form. 

When we receive your application, you will receive a notification with an application number. Please use this when communicating with ATU Sligo.

If you are offered a place, we will send you an email with a signed Learning Agreement and a URL link to finalise your application.  

The Learning Agreement will specify a fixed menu of subjects (modules) available on the programme you are being offered. 

Where applicable you will need to choose the elective subjects (modules). Elective modules are denoted by an [E] at the end of the subject name. All other subjects without an [E] at the end of the subject name are mandatory

You must print off the Learning Agreement and have it approved/signed by your college (maximum of 30 ECTS credits)

To complete your application, you must upload the signed Learning Agreement via the URL link. This will be included in the email communication you received from ATU Sligo. 

You will receive a confirmation letter once your acceptance of the Learning Agreement and offered place is processed. 

The subjects on your finalised Learning Agreement will earn you credit at home through the European Credit Transfer System. A transcript of your exam results will be sent to your International Office

Outgoing Erasmus+ Applications

Erasmus + offers financial support to ATU Sligo students to complete a study mobility in one of our partners colleges where an agreement exists for your degree. Please view the list of our Erasmus partners for further information. 

Alternatively, you may complete a Traineeship Mobility if placement is an element of your degree. This is a wonderful opportunity and will benefit you both personally and academically.

Erasmus+ Student Study and Placement Mobilities

Erasmus+ student mobility can be carried out in any study field and cycle. The mobility must be compatible with the student’s degree-related learning and personal development needs. Students may carry out the following activities: study period, traineeship, doctoral mobility, blended mobility or blended intensive programmes (BIP). For further information on acceptable activities and duration see the Erasmus+ Student Study and Mobilities document. 

Students must carry out their physical mobility activity in an EU Member State or third countries associated to the Programme or a third country not associated to the Programme different from the country of the sending organisation and the country where the student has his/her accommodation during his/her studies. See Erasmus + Programme or Partner country List.

  • Students registered in a HEI and enrolled in studies leading to a recognised degree or another recognised tertiary level qualification (up to and including the level of doctorate). In case of doctoral mobility, the participant must be at EQF level 8.
  • Recent higher education graduates may participate in a mobility for traineeships. Recent graduates must be selected by their HEI during their last year of study, and must carry out and complete their traineeship abroad within one year of obtaining their graduation

EU grants provide a contribution to your costs during your time abroad and vary depending on:

  1. The receiving country; and
  2. The distance between Ireland and the receiving country.

If your training period abroad is between Programme countries, ATU Sligo will be responsible for making all payments. If it is between Programme and Partner countries, ATU Sligo and the receiving institution will decide which one will make your payments.

How to Apply? Step by Step Guide:

If the Erasmus + Expression of Interest Form is approved by the International Office (subject to grant availability) the student must provide written approval from Head of Department and / or their Study / Traineeship Abroad Co-ordinator.

International Office to confirm the likely amount of Erasmus + grant available.

International Office to nominate the student to the partner institution for Student Study Mobility (as per the agreed inter-instutional agreement); OR Placement Co-ordinator to nominate the student for his / her Traineeship.

Student applicant to provide the following Checklist of Documentation:

    • Erasmus + Mobility Application Form.
    • Proof of Study Mobility application acceptance OR proof of Traineeship acceptance.
    • Erasmus + Learning Agreement (signed).
    • Erasmus + Study OR Traineeship Agreement (signed).
    • Complete On-Line Lingusitic Support (OLS) prior to departure.
    • Certificate of Arrival Form (signed).
    • European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
    • Private Medical Insurance.

Assuming (5) is in order, ATU Sligo International Office will arrange for an initial grant payment amounting to 80% of the total approved grant.

Student to send a signed Certificate of Completion form to the International Office.

Student to complete Erasmus + OLS and Final Report online survey.

Assuming (7) & (8) are completed and in order the final 20% of the total approved grant will be paid directly to the student.

Erasmus+ for Staff

Erasmus+ offers staff (both academic and non-academic) the chance to travel to one of our partner institutions in Europe to teach and also supports a wide range of training opportunities across Europe.

An Erasmus+ mobility can be an incredibly beneficial experience and provides many opportunities for personal and professional development. 

The application process for Staff Training and Staff Teaching Mobilities can be found below.    

Erasmus+ Staff Training

Erasmus+ supports training periods for both Faculty & PMSS staff working in higher education institutions. With Erasmus+, you can train at a higher education institution in an Erasmus+ Programme or Partner country or at an organisation outside the sector in a Programme country. Examples of such organisations include businesses, public bodies, social partners, research institutes and non-governmental organisations.

A training period between two Programme countries must last a minimum of 2 days and cannot last more than 2 months. This excludes travelling time. A training period between a Programme country and a Partner country must last a minimum of 5 days and cannot last more than 2 months. This excludes travelling time.

  • To train abroad with Erasmus+, your higher education institution must either, in the cases of Programme countries, hold the Erasmus+ Charter for Higher Educationor, in the case of Partner countries, have signed an Inter-institutional Agreement with the receiving institution.
  • Before beginning your training, you, ATU Sligo and the receiving institution sign a Mobility Agreement. This document sets out your learning goals, rights and responsibilities and also how your training will be formally recognised.

EU grants provide a contribution to your costs for travel and subsistence during your time abroad and vary depending on:

  1. The receiving country; and
  2. The distance between Ireland and the receiving country.

If your training period abroad is between Programme countries, ATU Sligo will be responsible for making all payments. If it is between Programme and Partner countries, ATU Sligo and the receiving institution will decide which one will make your payments.

Complete the Staff Training Mobility.

If the Expression of Interest is approved by the International Office (subject to grant availability) the staff member must provide written approval from Head of Function.

International Office to confirm the likely amount of Erasmus + grant available broken down between (a) Travel; and (b) Subsistence.

Staff member to complete and provide the following Checklist of Documentation:

    • Travel Form (TF1) approved by Line Manager (cost as per (3) above).
    • Erasmus + Staff Training Agreement (signed).
    • Erasmus + Staff Training Grant Agreement (signed).
    • Quotations from Club Travel for Travel and Accommodation (Note: (a) must not exceed grant amounts for travel and subsistence; (b) travel dates should be one day either side of the start / end of the proposed mobility period).
    • Invoice (if applicable) for Staff Training course fee.

Assuming (4) is in order, ATU Sligo International Office will raise Purchase Orders with (a) Club Travel for travel and accommodation; and (b) Training Provider (if training fee is applicable).

Staff member to send a signed Confirmation of Attendance form to the International Office.

Staff member to complete Erasmus + Online Survey at the end of the mobility period.

If the PO’s raised for (a) Travel; and (b) Accommodation are less than the approved grant, the International Office will raise a non-PO payment request with Finance to pay the remaining balance directly to the staff member.

Erasmus+ Staff Teaching

Erasmus+ supports teaching periods for Faculty staff at HEI’s abroad. Faculty staff can spend time teaching at a partner institution in an Erasmus+ Programme or Partner country. Teaching opportunites are also available to staff working in Programme country organisations.

Examples of such organisations include businesses, public bodies, social partners, research institutes and non-governmental organisations.

A teaching period between two Programme countries must last a minimum of 2 days and a maximum of 2 months. This excludes travelling time. A teaching period between a Programme country and a Partner country must last a minimum of 5 days and cannot last more than 2 months. This excludes travelling time. During your stay abroad, the teaching activity must comprise a minimum of 8 hours per week (or any shorter period of stay) of actual teaching time.

  • ATU Sligo must either, in the case of Programme countries, hold the Erasmus+ Charter for Higher Educationor, in the case of Partner countries, have signed an inter-institutional agreement with the receiving institution.
  • Before beginning your teaching period, you, your HEI and the receiving institution sign a Mobility Agreement. This document sets out your learning goals, rights and responsibilities and also how the teaching period will be recognised.
