PROGRAMME SUMMARY

Skilled marketers are in high demand in Ireland and across the globe. With more business taking place online, now more than ever, our graduates are highly employable. The broad marketing knowledge gained on this programme equips graduates with the skills for an exciting career in lots of different marketing and business areas.

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

Students graduate with a broad business knowledge and a specialism in marketing. There are many roads of opportunity for a marketing graduate - digital marketing, traditional marketing, new product development, consumer insights, marketing metrics, logistics and global marketing are just some of the areas that employment may lie. This programme gives students the knowledge and skills needed for their future career. The guest lectures, Erasmus+ programme, work placement, community engagement projects and business insights trips, coupled with excellent teaching, lay the foundations for a much valued honours degree qualification and an enjoyable third-level experience.

YEAR 1 AND YEAR 2

Students gain an insight into core business modules as well as an introduction to marketing modules. Many modules have guest speakers and projects linked to local and international organisations. Business insights trips take place where the theory in the classroom is seen in practice while visiting various organisations.

YEAR 3

Students continue to develop their marketing skills and knowledge, which includes an opportunity to complete Google Ads accreditations. In Semester 2, students complete an eight-week work placement. It can often be difficult to get that first piece of marketing work experience. As the work placement is part of this programme, students not only graduate with an honours degree, but relevant marketing work experience too. Many past students have gained full and part time work with their work placement employers after the work placement has finished. Students can also choose to spend one or two semesters at one of our partner academic Institutions in Germany, France or Spain as part of the Erasmus programme. This is a fantastic opportunity to embrace a new culture and improve language skills.

YEAR 4

Students develop their professional marketing skills and apply them in many practical projects with real-life organisations. Students also have the opportunity to sit an exam to become listed on the Qualified Marketer Register of the Marketing Institute of Ireland. On completion of the programme, students will have a bachelor of business honours degree with a marketing specialism. This programme has been designed in compliance with the Teaching Council’s curricular teaching subject requirements for Business. Therefore, secondary school teaching of Business is also an option for graduates who complete a Professional Master of Education (PME).

Please note that modules may change for your year of entry. The exact modules available and their order may vary depending on student demand and course updates.

PROFESSIONAL ACCREDITATION

Students have the opportunity to obtain Google Ads accreditation.

Students may also sit an exam to become listed on the Qualified Marketer Register of the Marketing Institute of Ireland (MII).

Alumni

In 2017, Anne returned to education after 12 years of running a retail business. Despite having lots of skills, she found employers were looking for solid qualifications which she didn’t have. As part of her degree studies, Anne had completed work placement with a company called Electric Skyline securing the role of temporary marketing assistant which progressed into Marketing Manager.

Anne says “The broad range of subjects covered in my time in ATU Sligo and the fact that it was a well-rounded business degree gave me the tools to be comfortable with a broad range of tasks, from technical work to reporting and strategy development. It also meant that I was able to see the business as a whole rather than just focus on one area". Anne believes that ATU Sligo degrees provide graduates with the requirements of the employer, which means that finding that dream job is possible.
