IT SLIGO STUDENTS FOR FINLAND
Two IT Sligo undergraduates will be representing the college in an international marketing competition in Finland this week. Marie Ladisch and Shane Brannigan students of Bachelor of Business in Marketing (PR and Event management) will be making the trip with their Business and Humanities lecturer Carol Moran. The students will be taking part in the Markstrat programme, an international marketing simulation programme which attracts students from all over the world. It is promoted by an IT Sligo partner Institute in Avans, Holland.
Representatives from the Marketing and Tourism Department from IT Sligo met with the programme co-ordinator, Dr Ton Perlo last year. This was part of the Institute initiative to extend its international programme and provide greater opportunities for students to avail of an international experience. Reflecting this, IT Sligo is sending it’s first ever team to the competition.
The programme requires teams to work on real-life cases studies drawn from European based enterprises each day of the competition. They are then required to outline and make recommendations for the most appropriate marketing strategies for each company. At the end of the week, the winners are announced at the gala dinner where major industry representatives from across Europe are present.
Ann Higgins, Head of Tourism and Marketing at IT Sligo comments: ‘The trip reflects our strategic aim of increasing our international reach, providing excellent networking opportunities into a wider European and global market. Participation in this programme has many worthwhile benefits, giving excellent international marketing experiences to our under-graduates. It also reinforces the IT Sligo brand internationally. The two students were nominated by the academic staff and competition for places will be an excellent motivation to work hard during the year.’
