IT Sligo was the finishing point for the first event to mark the opening of The Model, the newly renovated arts space in Sligo.  The occasion the first of a series of ‘Critical Runs’ with Danish Artist Thierry Geoffroy.  This run was for local artists and there was a great turn out, especially from the students and lecturers from the Fine Art Department at IT Sligo. The discussion for this run was “Are art institutions so successful they no longer serve their local artists” …. a very vibrant debate!  The run ended at IT Sligo where participants went on to attend ‘Becoming Dutch: A model of future museum practice’ art lecture with guest Annie Fletcher.

Artist Thierry Geoffrey/Le Colonel is inviting groups of people to run/jog in three different events – organised so that political issues are discussed while running. These runs are happening in the centre of Sligo town. Thierry is particularly looking for groups of artists and people aged 50+ for two of the runs, but everyone is welcome to apply for the third.

The runs have taken place all over the world from the Brooklyn Bridge to Athens, Greece and are a great opportunity to meet new people, get issues off your chest and contribute to an art project while you’re on the run.  For more information see www.themodel.ie
