Biography

After working in acute health care for fifteen years I began my career in higher education in 2006. I joined IT Sligo in 2010, lecturing on both the BA Honours in Early Childhood and Social Care Practice Programme. I took up the role of Head of Department in Social Sciences in 2014. The department delivers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to over 650 students. I am responsible for the day to day management of the department, and with the support of the programme teams ensure academic quality and strategic direction of the department.  I am research active and published in the areas of widening participation in education, student engagement and pedagogy, and professionalization in the social care field. I am involved in a number of research projects and collaborations both locally and at EU level.

Research Interests

My research interests include widening participation in education, governance and self regulation of professionals, and space and place and how professionals exist and change identity within spaces.
