Biography

Maria Scanlon is a Lecturer in Accounting at IT Sligo having previously worked at DCU Business School. She received a dual degree in European Business, which incorporated two years studying in DCU, followed by two years at the European School of Business, Reutlingen, Germany. Subsequently, she completed the Professional Diploma in Accounting at DCU. Maria qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers where she worked as an assistant manager in Audit Services and completed a three month secondment at PwC Boston. Maria has lectured at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Her main subject areas include audit, financial reporting and financial management.

Maria is currently studying for her PhD at the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School UCD. Her research examines auditor-client interactions particularly in the context of recent EU Audit Reform legislation. Maria has presented her research at a number of international and national doctoral seminars and was the Irish Accounting and Finance Association (IAFA) nominee at the 2017 American Accounting Association (AAA) doctoral consortium.
