Biography

Dr McAfee is a Senior Lecturer in Systems and Control Engineering in the Department of Mechatronic Engineering. Her research interests are in sensing, modelling, and control of complex systems with applications in medical devices and biological systems, manufacturing, autonomous systems and environmental sensing and modelling. She is Co-Director of the Institute's Centre for Mathematical Modelling and Intelligent Systems for Health and Environment (MISHE) and is a Principal Investigator in the Precision Engineering, Materials and Manufacturing Strategic Research Centre (PEM SRC). She is also a Funded Investigator in I-Form, the SFI Research Centre for Advanced Manufacturing.

Outreach Activities

  Description

Dr McAfee has been project lead for the Sligo Engineering Fair (funded by SFI Discover and local industry) from 2018-2021. She has also been project lead of the wider Engineering NorthWest Discover project from 2019-2021 which aimed to educate and enthuse the public - and particularly females - about engineering and technology careers and their importance to society.
