Biography

Dr Umar Khan received his PhD degree in 2009 from School of Physics,  Trinity  College Dublin. He also holds MPhil Chemistry, MSc Chemistry and BSc degrees.  
He Joined IT Sligo in Jun 2016 as AL Chemistry.
Before Joining IT Sligo he worked in Trinity College Dublin. 2013-2016: Dr  Khan worked as a Commercialisation Research Fellow in CRANN/AMBER Trinity College Dublin.  He was in charge of nanocomposite section of Chemical Physics of Low-Dimensional  Nanostructures School  of Physics. 2008-2013 Research Fellow in Prof Jonathan Coleman group in the School of physics Trinity College.   During his time in Trinity College, Dr Khan was involved in research collaborationswith  various industries  partner e.g Royal College of Surgeons Ireland, SABMiller, Thomas Swan & Company Ltd  and   HP etc.   Dr Khan has supervised and co-supervised more than 20 under graduate, post graduate (Master and 11 PhD students). Dr Umar Khan has interdisciplinary background in physics, chemistry and materials science. He has been working on physical synthesis/exfoliation of nanomaterial since 2008, in particular 2D nanomaterials e.g Graphene, MoS2, MeS2, BN, MoO3 and other TMDS.Main areas of interest are industrial/commercial application of nanomaterials. Printed devices,     Applications  in solar cell     Application in transparent, flexible,  and high strain  conducting electrodes,    Application in sensors , odifying and reinforcing of  polymers/matels with  addition nano material
