BBs in Applied Sport with Business
If you have an interest in sport, recreation, outdoor pursuits, or in coaching and instruction, this is an ideal course for you.
This course will allow you to study all aspects of sport, leisure and recreation allied with advanced business, management and communication skills. The course features a high level of practical activity ranging from all swimming-based activities, surfing, fitness instruction and sports coaching. You will have the chance to attain valuable national and international qualifications including European-recognised gym instruction and personal training qualifications, lifeguarding, swim instructor and several coaching awards.
We have incorporated a number of key skills in the course to equip you for a career in the sport and recreation industry:
- You will gain practical experience in teaching, skills development, team and personal coaching across a broad range of indoor and outdoor leisure and sporting activities
- You will develop competencies in core business areas including management, marketing, finance, law and computer applications
- You will develop your people-related skills including communication, interpersonal, team-working and customer service skills
- You will understand and learn how to apply conceptual and organisational skills including collecting and organising information, problem solving, planning and organising
- You will be tutored on gym instruction
- You will gain valuable experience in surfing/swimming
There is a work placement during the second semester of year three.

The new Leaving Certificate Common Points Scale from 2017 is not directly comparable with the scale that was in existence from 1992 to 2016.
Applicants should list their CAO course choices in genuine order of preference and they will be offered the course highest up on their list that they are deemed eligible for, if any.
4 grade O6 and 2 Grade H5.
You should note that all entrants to this course will be required to undergo vetting by the Garda Síochána. If you have a criminal conviction in Ireland or elsewhere, this may adversely impact on your ability to undertake a professional placement or to secure employment.
Successful applicants for this course will be required to undergo a medical evaluation. The purpose of the evaluation is to identify students with special exercise requirements. This information is strictly confidential and any offer made will not be withdrawn on the basis of medical information supplied.
Hepatitis B vaccination will be required for work placement.
Skilled graduates are in high demand in the rapidly expanding leisure, recreation, and service industry. This includes sports facility management, sports development, health promotion, personal training, coaching and instruction.
What are my further study opportunities?
Qualified applicants may progress to the one year add-on Bachelor of Business (Hons) degree level 8 where you can continue your specialism in the sport with business stream or opt for the marketing or general business stream. Our graduates also have the opportunity to pursue a career in teaching through postgraduate studies. Other areas of further study open to you upon graduation include health promotion, marketing, management, sports psychology and strength and conditioning.
