Each week you have the option of attending the live online lunch time session, you can also watch the recording of each session or you can complete a combination of both – attend and/or watch the recording. On successful completion of all 6 sessions (regardless of format) you will be asked to complete a Feedback Form – once this is successfully submitted you will attain a Digital Badge in Academic Induction.  This digital badge can be linked to your CORE HR for professional development (CPD) purposes.

Colin (Birney) is a lecturer in IT Sligo

Colin Birney is a lecturer in IT Sligo since October 2017 in the Civil Engineering and Construction Department within the faculty of Engineering and Design.

A quantity surveyor by trade and a fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and chartered member of the Society of Chartered Surveyors of Ireland, with over 20 years’ experience in industry.

On starting in IT Sligo, Colin realised very quickly that delivering lectures to the students was only one part of the overall lecturing profession.

All lecturing staff also had to deal with Moodle pages, online lecturing and recording lectures, setting continuous assessment (CA) assignments and exams, uploading CA and exam results, IT Sligo’s quality assurance etc.

For this reason, the Centre for the Enhancement of Learning & Teaching (CELT) are delivering a programme whereby Colin will deliver over a period of 6 weeks an induction to all new full time and part time lecturing staff, detailing and explaining the tasks that lecturing staff must do as part of their overall function within IT Sligo, over and above the actual delivery of lectures to the students.

At the end of the 6 weeks, all new staff who attend the live inductions or watch the recordings and complete a feedback form will receive a Digital Badge.

To access all the above and more recordings and recourses please go to our “Academic Staff Induction” Moodle page .
