Enterprise Ireland Chief Sees IT Sligo Ambition

IT Sligo’s ambition to be a National Precision Engineering & Manufacturing Centre of Excellence was praised by the CEO of Enterprise Ireland Julie Sinnamon during her recent visit to the Institute.

The head of Ireland’s lead agency responsible for  the growth of Irish-owned businesses into global markets, visited the Institute as part of a two-day visit to the North West region.

“She was very impressed by our ability to satisfy the skills need of the manufacturing industry in the North West” said Úna Parsons, Head of Department in Mechanical & Electronic Engineering at IT Sligo. “We also promoted our vision for IT Sligo as a Centre of Excellence in Precision Engineering & Manufacturing (PEM).

The Institute’s PEM Research Centre recently secured approval from Enterprise Ireland to establish a Technology Gateway. The investment will form part of a National Technology Gateway network that is funded by Enterprise Ireland for supporting the technology and research needs of Irish Industry.

The recent investment by Enterprise Ireland into the PEM Technology Gateway  will facilitate the continued development of the Centre of Excellence in the provision of enhanced research services and technology offerings to the regional precision engineering and manufacturing industry base and further afield.

The establishment of the PEM Technology Gateway builds on the Institute’s strong heritage and tradition in toolmaking, precision engineering and manufacturing over the past 45 years.
