Sports Scholar Ronan Catches European Wave

The Ireland Senior Surfing Team have returned from the 2017 European Championships in Norway with their best ever finish in the championships – finishing third out of eleven competing nations.

The Irish team included Ronan Oertzen, a final year Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Finance and Investment student at IT Sligo.

Ronan competed in the Open Surf event during the championships, finishing in 25th place out of 50 in the indvidual discipline.

He is an ITSligo Sports Scholarship and is a former Irish Intervarsities Champion and National Champion (2011). He is an enthusiastic member of the IT Sligo surf club.

Ronan is based in Bundoran, but surfs Strandhill at every opportunity. He would admit himself that it is a life choice and surfing has brought him great opportunities to travel abroad and visit wonderful surf spots.
