A former IT Sligo student and multiple award winning sports woman, Emma Mullin, has been appointed as IT Sligo’s first FAI Football Facilitator.

A winner of the All Ireland Senior Cup with Mayo and a native of Kilmaine in Mayo, Emma has accumulated a wealth of experience in the sporting arena, both as a player and coach.

She has excelled at both soccer and Gaelic football and most recently earned a Masters degree in Sports & Exercise Management at University College Dublin, having previously completed a Business Degree in Recreation and Leisure (Hons) at IT Sligo.

With coaching qualifications in both sporting codes, Emma has represented the Ireland College’s Soccer Team in Turkey and Bangkok and has earned a cap with the Ireland ‘B’ International soccer team.

She is also a four time senior All Ireland winner with the Mayo GAA Ladies senior team.

Reflecting on her recent appointment Emma said:

“The job of FAI football facilitator is focused on the promotion of recreational soccer for the students and staff, creating the opportunities for anyone to play the game for fun and exercise. With the new astro-turf facility in the college, students now have the option to play the game either indoor in the Knocknarea Arena or outdoor on the floodlit astro turf.”

“I hope that by creating leagues, blitzes and competitions for the student body that more and more people will get involved in the game.”

No stranger to college life at IT Sligo, Emma received the Sports Personality of the Year at IT Sligo in 2008 after captaining the women’s soccer team for four years. In that time she also received four college All Stars and was top scorer for four consecutive years.

Francis O’Regan, manager of the women’s soccer team at IT Sligo, added:

“If Emma shows the same enthusiasm and commitment that she did while a student, I have no doubt whatsoever that she will make a huge success of her new job.  We are delighted to be working together with the FAI in developing soccer at IT Sligo and once again it shows the Institute’s progressive attitude to Sport and its development.”
