Gaelic Footballers Progress In Sigerson Cup

IT Sligo overcame GMIT in the preliminary round of the Higher Education Sigerson Cup with a 3-13 to 2-7 win at Tuam stadium on Thursday afternoon to earn a meeting with holders UCD.

Despite playing the majority of the game with 14 players after Philip Neilan was dimissed for two yellow cards in the first half, the Institute showed character to lead by 2-5 to 1-6 at the interval, with the contribution of Mayo native James Shaughnessy in attack proving pivotal as he contributed 1-6 to the IT Sligo tally over the hour.

IT Sligo now travel to Belfield on Tuesday afternoon to play the holders UCD in the first round proper. Throw-in: 2pm.
