A supportive IT Sligo will be “fully behind” the Sligo GAA Senior and Junior football teams every step of the way this season.

Under a new sponsorship agreement with Sligo County Board, players will have the Institute of Technology’s name and logo displayed on the back of their jerseys. The new design kit is being supplied by KUKRI Sports Ireland.

Sligo GAA says it is “delighted” with the new agreement with IT Sligo.

The kit was unveiled at a press conference this week when the County Board announced the main team sponsors and kit supplier, and plans for the 2014 season.

A number of Senior football team members were on hand to “model” the new kit.  The County Board announced a new three year deal with KUKRI. It is the first county team to adopt the brand.

It was also announced that the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa has renewed its sponsorship agreement.

Joe Taaffe, County Board Chairman was joined by members of his Executive team, his Finance Committee and Senior players at the event.

He thanked Peter Greene, Chairman of the Commercial team and Eamonn McMunn, County Board Administrator for exceptional work in ensuring Sligo secured premium sponsors in challenging times.

The use of IT Sligo’s name and logo on the reverse of the shirts stems from a recent change in GAA sponsorship regulations allowing an additional sponsor’s name to appear on the jersey.

Gordon Ryan, Head of Development and Business Operations at IT Sligo, said: “Sport and engagement with the community are very much at the heart of life at IT Sligo.

“Now, following our long association with Sligo GAA,  we are only too happy to be able to increase that co-operation, with our name and logo appearing on all Sligo GAA team jerseys, increased use of our Knocknarea Arena training facilities by Sligo players, and hoardings and match programme promotion for IT Sligo at Markievicz Park.”

Terry Jackson, General Manager & Director, Kukri Sports Ireland said: “It’s a historic time for us as we’ve received the GAA license and now welcome our first official GAA County. We’re really looking forward to working with Sligo over the coming seasons.”

Seamus Preston, General Manager of the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa, said the hotel was now entering the third year of sponsorship of the Senior and Junior teams. He added: “Over the years a strong and successful partnership has been developed between the Hotel, Sligo GAA and its members, and this is something that we certainly would like to build on.”
