Students studying for a Bachelor of Marketing at IT Sligo are focusing their attention on charity work that will benefit a range of local and national charities this semester.

A module on Not-for-Profit Marketing is delivered on the course and students are organising a range of events between now and Christmas, starting with a 5km Charity Walk next Thursday, October 21st, in collaboration with the North West Hospice.

Other events include a Mad Hatters Tea Party for Autism Action; a Fashion Show in aid of the Irish Cancer Society; a Wild West Night for the Make a Wish Foundation; and a Don’t Forget the Lyrics Night in aid of Temple Street Hospital.

Some €32,000 has been raised by through this course by IT Sligo students in the past four years under the direction of lecturer, Joanna Sweeney.

Ms Sweeney said: “The students work very hard to organise a range of charity events as part of the Bachelor of Marketing and we are very proud of their achievements to date.  They are equipping themselves with skills that will benefit them and their local communities when they leave IT Sligo, and all the money raised goes towards very worthwhile local and national charities.”

Volunteers are invited to take part in the 5Km Charity Walk in aid of the North West Hospice on Thursday, October 21st.

The walk starts at 1pm, from the IT Sligo canteen car park and will go to the Carraroe/ Sligo round-about.
