IT Sligo swimmer for Egypt

IT Sligo Sports Scholarship recipient John Morton is busy training with the Irish surf lifesaving team  as they prepare for the World Life Saving Championships in September 2010 in Egypt. He is currently first choice on the Irish team with most points from the National Championships.

Morton is undertaking a  Master of Engineering (MEng) at IT Sligo.  Never far from the ocean, his thesis is:  Investigating anchoring solutions for offshore structures such as floating windfarms and wave energy machines.

Before departing for Egypt after the summer,  Morton will be taking part in a number of  open swimming events in the North West including the Mullagh Mor Triathlon and the final races in the Rosses Point Swim Series. Titles Morton has earned in recent season the annual Liffey swim and he is the Irish record holder of the 100m Tube rescue.

John is originally from Glendalough Co Wicklow and now lives in Standhill, Co Sligo
