Swiss Student Makes 3,600KM Round Trip to Visit IT Sligo Open Day

Over 600 visitors from near and far came to the latest Open Day at IT Sligo on Saturday, including a young woman from Switzerland.  Swiss student, Gwendoline Cross searched for courses in sport management from her home and after some research found IT Sligo’s course offers everything she was looking for.  Gwendoline said making the 3,600km round trip was worth it as she found the Open Day really helpful:

“It seems like a really dynamic town and I’m really glad I came all the way from Switzerland.  It was a really good Open Day and I had all my questions answered and got to meet some of the lecturers.”

Potential students were offered tours, workshops, and lectures and had the opportunity to ask current students what college life is really like on campus.  As well as this, Guidance Counsellors, students and lifelong learners received advice on grants & fees and accommodation.

Marketing & Student Recruitment Manager, Rosie Gilleece thanked all who visited:

“We had students from Killarney, Wexford and Dublin as well as students from all across the west, northwest and midlands.  Open Days are a great opportunity for students and parents to meet with lecturers and support staff to get a real sense of the course they are interested in.  It also gives students a chance to have a taste of student life on campus.”

The deadline for CAO Late Applications is Wednesday 1st of May.  For further information IT Sligo has created a CAO 5 point checklist:

Tip 1: Get the order right

Choose courses in your genuine order of preference, based on your own career aspirations

Tip 2: Do your Research

It is vital that you understand the course content in your selected course. Examine the subjects/modules you’ll actually be studying.

Tip 3: Don’t guess what points you will get

Place your courses in order of preference on the form. Picture the CAO form as your wish list. Never list your choices in points order. Points levels change from year to year due to supply and demand.

Tip 4: Check the Entry Requirements

Make sure you reach all the entry requirements and have taken the required subjects at the appropriate level.

Tip 5: Talk it over

Consult with the key people in your life e.g. your parents/guardians, guidance counsellor, partner.
