Sligo is hosting its very first Design Week this week (October 31st to November 6th), with a programme of free events and design-led happenings taking place at venues and pop-up locations, as part of the year-long celebration of design in Ireland.

Irish Design 2015 is a year-long programme exploring, promoting and celebrating Irish Design in just about every form, and provided the funding for this year’s Sligo Design Week.

The inaugural design festival for Sligo includes an extensive line-up of speakers for a lunchtime Design Talks series at The Model arts centre, workshops exploring everything from Lino Cut and refashioning to networking events, design exhibitions including the highly acclaimed Fresh Talent exhibition, a special session on Creative Entrepreneurship, a family day of design at The Model, a live street art and music gig, and a Makers Day including a Pop up FabLab with 3D printing and laser cutting machines, as well as a special screening of ‘Maker’.

“This year is about introducing design as a conversation in Sligo, drawing the design community together and encouraging everyone to get involved in the event through a programme of 100% free events.”, says Denise Rushe, event coordinator of Sligo Design Week.

Among the highlights from the programme of free events in Sligo will be a Creative Entrepreneurship workshop at IT Sligo on Wednesday, November 4th, from 10am to 12pm. The venue is lecture hall A0004. Book tickets here.

This event will bring together leading local agencies, creative networks, student entrepreneurs and retail businesses to share information and supports on setting a creative enterprise in Sligo and the Northwest.
