Third Year Tourism with Event Management students from IT Sligo played a key role in the organisation of the 2015 Sligo St Patrick’s Day Parade.

The students, who are studying for a Bachelor of Business in Tourism with Event Management degree, were set the task of assisting the Sligo Parade Committee with the organisation of the 2015 event.

This is the third consecutive year that the Institute has collaborated in this way with the Parade organisers.

“This was a major undertaking for our students,” said Joanna Sweeney, Lecturer in Tourism at IT Sligo.

“The students were involved in all aspects of the planning and staging of the Sligo Parade – and they found it to be a challenging and very rewarding experience.”

The students duties included updating social media platforms, marketing, innovative collaborations, devising and introducing a volunteer programme as well as developing fundraising intiatives

The Institute’s collaboration with the Sligo St Patrick’s Day Parade has become a significant example of Community Engagement in the North West region.
