IT Sligo has signed agreements with two colleges in the US this week as part of an Enterprise Ireland Education Mission.

These agreements will enable students from the Humanities Department at IT Sligo to study in the Westfield State University and the Wheelock College – both of which are in Massachusetts. Students from both of these colleges will also travel here to study at IT Sligo.

President of IT Sligo, Professor Terri Scott, is also meeting with a number of other universities in Boston and Chicago while in the States to explore the development of further links with IT Sligo.

Speaking before she left, Professor Scott said; “The objective of this mission is to develop partnerships with suitable universities and colleges in the US and, from our point of view, to create more awareness of IT Sligo in the US.”

“Our Humanities Department and our Online and Distance Learning Departments already have active links with US universities, and IT Sligo’s International Office is very active in promoting IT Sligo to prospective international students in the EU, the US and further afield – but this is an area that we are keen to develop further.”

“The international student population at it Sligo contribute significantly to the college’s academic and extra-curricular activities and, equally, our students benefit greatly from opportunities to study abroad.”

Accompanying Professor Teri Scott on the trip is Sarah O’Beirne, Academic Co-ordinator at the IT Sligo International Office.

Representatives from 14 Higher Education Institutes are taking part on the Education Mission.
