A new book focusing on the Irish and Greek economic crises has been co-edited by an IT Sligo lecturer.
This book –Sustainable Politics and the Crisis of Peripheries: Ireland and Greece – brings together writers from Ireland and Greece and explores issues such as the economic background, social impacts and the quest for sustainable politics which have surrounded the fiscal crisis in the two countries. It is co-edited by IT Sligo Sociology, Criminology and Human Rights lecturer Dr Liam Leonard and Iosif Botetzigas of the University of the Aegean.
Investigating governance, sustainable politics and environmental policies within the context of accelerated growth and the subsequent economic downturn, the book features chapters from media commentators Constantin Gurdgiev and Kieran Allen, Peadar Kirby, Carmen Kuhling and Dr Liam Leonard, as well as contributions from a number of Greek writers.
It concludes with a discussion of the future for sustainable politics in the peripheral member states of Europe, in the aftermath of the global downturn.
