The campus of IT Sligo had a leaner and fitter look to it last week as students and staff took part in Physical Activity Week 2015 as part of the Institute’s Healthy Campus programme.

A wide range of activities catered for all levels and abilities. These included a Cycle to Work Day, Couch to 5K, Duathlon and Disability Awareness Games. This last activity gave able-bodied students and staff members the opportunity to experience disciplines such as wheelchair basketball for the first time.

“We have the practical and teaching expertise on campus, and that enables us to be a step ahead in fostering health promotion for both staff and students.” explains Yvonne Roache, IT Sligo’s Health, Safety and Wellness Officer.  “The Healthy Campus team includes IT Sligo academics and other professionals who specialise in health promotion, exercise, emotional health and the environment.”

As part of IT Sligo’s commitment to the Healthy Campus initiative, additional outdoor facilities and equipment have been introduced to the campus this year. These include an outdoor gym, enhanced cycling faciltiies such as shelters, lockers, repair stations and state-of-the-art changing rooms.
